Game of the Week
Kodiak took an early lead and were on top through five innings but with one week
to go in the regular season JBJ still remains at the top of the leader board.
In the bottom of the 1st Kodiak catcher Ryan Morgan lead off with
a base hit and was followed by Bob Pedatella who also reached with
a single.
Dustin
McConnell walked to load the bases and with
two out
Frank Ferrell
drove in two runs with a single. Dave Canipe drove in the third
run of the inning with a single. JBJ collected just four hits and went scoreless
through the first three innings but they were very sharp defensively shutting
down Kodiak with double plays in both the 2nd and 3rd innings.

JBJ broke the drought in the 4th inning when
Steve
DePascale legged out an inside the park homer and
Scott Brown scored from third on an error after John Borie
lined a double. Kodiak continued to lead through five innings but they ran
into trouble in the 6th.
Bob Brown reached base via an infield miscue and
Steve
DePascale followed up with a base hit.
An RBI single by Rich Legregni drove the first run of the
inning across the plate. Another infield error by Kodiak allowed the second
run to score. John Borie, who was 3 for 3 on the day,
drove in a run with a base hit and pitcher Mario Van Dunk
stroked a triple to score two more. Catcher Ken Hunt drove in
the final run of the inning with a base hit . Kodiak went hitless in the
bottom of the 6th.
Bill Whritenour led
off the top of the 7th with a base hit. Bob Brown got a double
and Whritenour scored from third on yet another Kodiak error. JBJ got
their 10th and final run of the game on a sacrifice fly to center field by
Steve DePascale who went 3 for 4 on the
day.
Charley Huber got his third hit of the
day, an infield single, but Kodiak came up dry in their half of the 7th. The loss knocked them back into the fifth spot in the league standings behind the Black Sox and Erskine Lakes.
