Semi-Final Game Three

Erskine Lakes vs. Haskell AC

The game between Erskine and Haskell AC was the tie breaker of the three game semi-final series. This game was previously suspended on account of rain and was resumed in the 4th inning. Haskell AC scored first in the second inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Matt Geyer. Erskine Lakes took the lead in the top of the 4th on a two run triple by Rob Edwards, as rain began to fall. Tyler Engels lead off the bottom of the 4th with a walk. John Volpe stroked a triple which drove in a run to tie the game. Erskine pitcher Doug Edler walked in the go ahead run and the game was suspended at that point because of heavy rain.

When the game resumed Joe Diaz drove in the third run of the inning on a fielders choice and it was 4-2 going into the top of the 5th. Erskine catcher Ken DeLiso got on with a single and scored on a triple by second baseman Pete Kelly. Corey Davis drove in a run with a base hit and Greg Deane scored from third base on a sacrifice fly to center field off the bat of Matt Diamond. In the bottom of the 5th AC catcher Adam Kuhn hit a solo home run to tie the score at 5-5.

Erskine went scoreless in the top of the 6th but it was a big inning for AC. With one out, Dan Vuksanic hit a solo shot to put AC up by one run. Jim Engels and Chris Norton had back to back base hits and Matt Geyer walked to load the bases. Joe Diaz stepped up and stroked a triple to right field to score Engels and Norton. Matt Geyer, who had walked, also crossed as the throw came to the plate. The ball went to the backstop so Diaz attempted to score from third. In a very close (and controversial) play he was called out. Joe sustained an injury to his shoulder and had to leave the game (and sat out the finals).

In the top of the 7th Pete Kelly hit a double but was gunned down by the rifle arm of AC center fielder Tyler Engels trying to make it to third. AC pitcher Tom Serge got Greg Deane to fly out to center and that was it. Final score 9-5 and AC moves on to the Championship Series.

In the top of the 2nd the first two batters for AC, Chris Norton and Matt Geyer, drew a base on balls. Both men scored when shortstop Dave Bauman scampered around the bases with an inside the park home run down the right field line.

In the bottom of the 2nd the first four batters for JBJ reached base. Each man got a base hit and Paul Maurer scored from third on a wild pitch. Bob Brown drove in the second run and Steve DePascale lined a three run homer just to the right of the left field foul pole. Mario Van Dunk drove in the sixth run with a double. Ken Hunt singled and Paul Maurer drove in the seventh and final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Both teams went scoreless in the 3rd inning. AC closed the gap to four runs when Dave Bauman drove in a run with a base hit in the top of the 4th. JBJ added a run in the bottom of the 5th on an infield miscue and catcher Ken Hunt drove in the twelfth run of the game on a fielders choice. AC could muster only one more run on an outfield error and went down 12-7 in the first game of the series.

Championship Series - Game Two

JBJ Electric vs. Haskell AC

JBJ collected only two hits (both triples) in the first two innings of the second game and AC had only one base hit. JBJ broke out in the top of the 3rd. Bill Whritenour and Tim Lehman had back to back singles to start the inning. Kevin Sheehan walked to load the bases and Bob Brown stepped up to hit a grand slam home run over the left center field fence to make the score 4-0. The next batter up, Scott Brown, stepped up and hit a solo shot that cleared the fence 25 feet up in the trees, in almost the exact spot as brother Bob's. John Borie hit a pop up that dropped for a base hit when shortstop Dave Bauman and Chris Norton collided. Dave sustained face and head injuries. The next two batters were out and it was  5-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd.

Dave Bauman hit a two run double and scored on an outfield error to make it 5-3 going into the top of the 4th. Kevin Sheehan drove in a run in the JBJ's half of the 4th. JBJ scored two more in the 5th when John Borie drove in a run with a base hit and Paul Maurer hit a sacrifice fly to center field. Haskell AC catcher Adam Kuhn got a base hit that drove in two in the bottom of the inning.

JBJ went down in order in the top of the 6th. In the bottom of that inning Dan Vuksanic led off with a double and was driven home by Matt Geyer who also reached second with a double. Chris Norton and Ray Pascarella walked to load the bases and a second run scored on a fielders choice.

JBJ failed to score in the top of the 7th so it was 8-7 with three outs left for Haskell AC.  With one out in the bottom of the 7th Tyler Engels drew a walk. But....that was all she wrote; the next two batters flied out and the JBJ squad were Playoff Champions for the second straight year.

John Borie, who went 5 for 8 in the series, was voted Most Valuable Player by his teammates and John Volpe received the Sportsmanship Award for 2010.
